Perfect for DRM protected foreign books
Update (June 2015)
In case if youre looking for an excellent reader for foreign DRM protected books - therere no alternatives (frankly - tested absolutely everything).
But therere still enough things to improve:
- absence of one/two column reading selection for Landscape mode (iPad) - NSB forcibly switches into the two-column;
- absence of indents settings (vertical and horizontal);
Also a few bugs were discovered (insignificant but notable).
--------------
Update 2014.08.11.
After all I had to move to another reader app (Marvin).
Why: lack of sync between the devices; a bit obsolete design; speed wasnt improved to acceptable.
Everything changes and recently Ive discovered a few significant updates from Neosoar team. Looking forward for the rest because DRM is still the serious thing which Marvin didnt include yet.
-------
Update: Still havent found an alternative reader with such impressive bunch of options!
Nevertheless, some features implementation + bug fixes would make this app much more outstanding:
Features (in addition to my previous list):
* Cyrillic support in order to use program for non-English books (in order to work with internal and Wiki/Dictionary search);
* change Translate button location (move it closer to start);
* maybe this would be better to decrease sync intervals and logic (now it turns on even when Im switching between the apps);
* Select an appropriate folder for the new book (purchased or added externally).
Bug-fixes:
* When you adding a custom note in landscape mode, program forcibly use portrait mode;
* Note icon on the right top is absolutely useless but sometimes overlaps a few letters of the opened book.
______________
First of all - million thanks for adequate bunch of reading options in one app!
I was looking quite a long for reader where I can use convenient dictionary inline, Retina support, fullscreen reading mode and search engine.
The best thing which was most important for me is integrated translation via Google Translation directly! It is unique feature which works like I was hoping.
However some things can be significantly improved:
- processing engine is not fast enough; book opening and page rotation are pretty slow (compared with a few other apps);
- FB2 and non-DRM MOBI support is really useful and would be great of some day it will appear;
- day/night reading mode is absent;
- images within the book are displaying incorrectly - on iPhone it looks like picture divided between 2 pages.
- cross platform sync (especially if you seriously planning to compete with Kindle);
- more stable behavior; currently Im facing with unexpected falls when switching between apps (usually when network is unavailable); FIXED
- the last opened book must be automatically loaded to avoid overburden actions.
Theres also small bug was found. When you try to select single word or string on the top of page, you dont see context menu to select option.
Nevertheless, Im generally satisfied with EPUB books reading using NeoSoarBook!
